Forever & Always

From young love, to happily ever after. We celebrate the auspicious union of our very own FabMags team member. A hearty congratulations to Mr and Mrs Erasmus!

The Venue

We chose The Hatchery as our venue, and we wouldn’t have changed ANYTHING! It was such a relaxed, fun vibe, not only for the wedding but also for our family reunion. Both of our families live so far away; it was perfect for us to get together and spend time with everyone.

Our ceremony was held on the rustic deck that overlooks the Amatikulu River, which just added to the romance of the day, and the weather played along beautifully! Our reception was held in a spot they call ‘The Breeders Dam,’ an old dam that has been broken down, covered by a massive stretch tent in case of bad weather.

The Decor

Our colour theme was navy, blush, and rose gold, with hints of green that came from the eucalyptus branches sprinkled throughout the venue. Caryn, from Desire 2 Hire, was an absolute treat with suggestions on what to add and what not to have too much of, and when everything came together, I was blown away. My mom and dad also had a massive part in the decor process, hand making a lot of the decor, including making 18m of bunting. This, along with the set and lighting from Desire 2 Hire, created the rustic romantic vibe I wanted!

One massive stand out point was our sweets table! Caryn set up a beautiful spread in glass jars along with a doughnut wall filled with some of our favourite doughnuts from Krispy Kreme. Our wedding cake (a Vanilla Dream from Chateau Gateaux, put together and decorated by my FabMags team!) was also on display. They didn’t last very long!

The Flowers

The flowers will always be a sentimental memory for me. All my girls, my mom, now mom-in-law, my two grans, my aunts, and my cousins sat together the night before the wedding making bouquets and flower crowns: a highlight of the weekend for me. I was very indecisive about what I wanted for flowers. At first, I didn’t want them, but I finally made up my mind and went super minimal. My bouquet consisted of eucalyptus that came from our close friends’ farm in Stutterheim, some fynbos sprigs, and a beautiful giant protea. My bridesmaids and junior bridesmaids had the same – minus the proteas. The younger girls had flower crowns, mine being baby’s breath, and the younger girls had eucalyptus.

The Dress

Every girl has that Pinterest board and mine had been going for about six years. It just so happens that the dress I chose was not like anything on my Pinterest board. I found a dress online and decided to go and try it on, thinking this was my dream dress. After discovering I looked like an upside-down tulip, I suggested a quick pop into Bride and Co., where each person chose a dress for me to try on. My mom-in-law pulled out a slip, full flower lace halter neck dress that I was pretty sure I was not going to like. But like in the movies, when I exited the room, everyone, including me, was in tears. The dress was perfect! And, it was on SALE, falling right into the budget!

The Food

Honestly, Sacha’s Catering will go down in our family and friends’ books as some of the best food we’ve ever had! She went above and beyond with every bit of detail (she and her husband even had a big hand in helping set up the venue the night before the wedding). While we were getting ready, she brought us freshly made snack platters of fruits, meats, and the best croissants I have ever had! Paired with some lovely mimosas, which made getting ready full of giggles and chatter.

For starters, it was a beautiful harvest table with a massive array of cheeses, along with crackers, fresh fruit, different loaves of bread, dips, and a fantastic asparagus tart. My mom also made a biltong ‘cake’ for people to pick pieces. For mains, Sacha made lasagna, pasta dishes, cottage pie, and my ultimate favourite dish, a delicious breyani!

Hair and Makeup

All hair and makeup for the bridal party and the moms were done by ‘Made Up by Jordyn Brown’. She did an outstanding job, and I felt gorgeous once everything came together and my girls looked breathtaking!

What was your favourite moment?

Honestly, I loved the ENTIRE day, but if I had to pick a handful, they would be our secret, intimate reveal before the ceremony (I highly recommend this to all brides, it just makes the first look so much more special). The surprise ABBA flash mob by almost our entire family and bridal party, and the Father-Daughter dance (my dad had just had major surgery and was not sure he would be able to dance with me at my wedding, but he held himself up just long enough to get a few steps in with me).

I would not change a thing about our day, and we would just like to thank all our friends and family, as well as the FabMags team, who went out of their way to help make our day the memorable day we could ask for. And then a special thanks to my husband for making me happier than I could ever imagine being, forever and always.
