Lifestyle SUPERSPAR, anchor tenant at Lifestyle Centre in Ballito, is set for a major transformation throughout 2026, marking the most significant upgrade in the store’s 22 year history. The revamp supports Lifestyle Centre’s long-standing vision of creating meaningful community spaces that reflect “life the Ballito way.” It all started in 2003 when brothers, Paul and Bruce Rencken, envisioned more than a shopping stop. They imagined a destination that would offer meaningful experiences and be deeply connected to local life. Lifestyle SUPERSPAR was the anchor tenant, at the heart of this vision. Over two decades later, Ballito Lifestyle Centre has grown into one of the region’s most beloved community hubs, known for its personal touch, local character, open-air design and street-scene shopping and dining. With strong family values and deep local roots, the Rencken family continues to evolve the centre while staying true to its mission: to be a meaningful extension of locals’ lives and contribute positively to ‘Life the Ballito Way’. Now, as the next generation joins the family business, Lifestyle Centre is preparing for its next bold evolution – a major revamp of Lifestyle SUPERSPAR in 2026.
A Bigger, Better, Future-Ready Lifestyle SUPERSPAR
Bruce Rencken, co-owner of Lifestyle Centre and Lifestyle SUPERSPAR, announced that Lifestyle SUPERSPAR will undergo an extensive transformation throughout 2026, designed to significantly enhance customer experience, increase convenience and elevate quality across every department. “The store will expand from 2 235m2 to 3235m2,” he said, “allowing for a more spacious layout, improved flow and the introduction of new shopping areas.” Several key departments will grow substantially, while the product range and offering of the entire store will be improved. The Butchery and Bakery departments will each double in size, offering increased capacity, better service areas and more space for artisanal and specialty products. Customers can also look forward to an artisanal deli and cheese section, a bigger and better sushi station, a big focus on ready-to-eat and ready-heat home meals and a curry bar. The Wine Department will also undergo a major expansion, creating a more immersive and curated browsing experience with a wider selection and enhanced presentation. “The new store layout considers convenience in a big way,” said Rencken. “We have taken ‘shopper missions’ into account and ensured that quick, pop-in missions are catered for as much as larger, month end shopping missions.”
A Fresh Take on Store Design & Experience
Rencken explained that the redesign embraces a new generation of retail principles:
• Intuitive, Experiential Layout
The new layout guides customers through a more natural shopping journey, one that feels effortless, engaging and enjoyable, no matter the shopping mission.
• Beautiful, Purposeful Design
The store environment has been reimagined to balance calmness with excitement. Improved flow, thoughtful placement of high-interest categories and upgraded aesthetics aim to make shopping both inspiring and efficient.
The 22-year old Lifestyle SUPERSPAR is due for a
major revamp in 2026
• Modern Equipment & Technology
Every department will receive upgraded equipment, improved arrangements and advanced building technologies that support product quality, fresher food, improved convenience and a smoother in-store experience.
A Year of Exciting Reveals With Minimal Disruption
”We will remain open throughout 2026, with work being done in carefully planned phases to minimise any disruption,” said Rencken. “While there will inevitably be some disorder and a little disturbance, we are working with very professional project management and construction teams to ensure the store remains operational, accessible and enjoyable throughout the transformation. Much of the construction work will be undertaken after hours and when departments, shelves and categories shift temporarily, our trained staff and clear signage will guide customers quickly.” He outlined that customers can look forward to the following key dates:
• Expanded shopping space and new Wine Department: April 2026
• Butchery and Bakery unveiling: Mid-May 2026
• Expanded Take-Away Section: July 2026
• New Deli & Sushi Experience: Mid-August 2026
• Revamped Fresh Produce Area: End of September 2026
“Each phase will bring new energy, new offerings and an improved shopping experience, culminating in the launch of the final product in October 2026,” he enthused.
A Revamp Rooted in Ballito’s Future
“We will always attach value to family, community and making the most of the KZN North Coast’s beautiful surroundings,” explained Rencken. “We are driven by ensuring Lifestyle Centre, Lifestyle SUPERSPAR and Lifestyle TOPS remain real and meaningful extensions of locals’ lives. This revamp reflects our commitment to evolving with the community while staying true to our values of family, quality and connection.” The 2026 Lifestyle SUPERSPAR revamp will honour this legacy by preparing the store for the next decade of customer expectations, food innovation and community growth. Customers can look forward to better flow, enhanced ambience, modernised equipment, advanced technology, improved convenience, a broader, more exciting product offering and thoughtful merchandising designed to make shopping easier, faster and more enjoyable. “I’m hugely excited about the fact that the upgraded Lifestyle SUPERSPAR will be fresher, more inspiring and more aligned than ever with the way Ballito lives, shops and connects,” said Rencken.
