We arrived at the Kung Thai restaurant in New Salt Rock centre and found our table. As we took our seats, Sean introduced himself and the restaurant. We wanted recommendations, and boy, did he do a great job at going through all the options for us! We were excited for the meal ahead and absolutely convinced the dishes we chose would be fabulous!!
Starters

Paper Prawns
Four marinated prawn tails wrapped in rice paper, fried crisp and served with a secret sauce
This was prawns, exactly as you’d want them: perfectly crunchy! Their secret dipping sauce, not your usual sweet chilli, complemented them so well.

Thai Bomb
Two or three jalapeños stuffed with chicken, coriander and spring onion, then crumbed and dipped in buttermilk batter. Served with Nina’s Thai mayonnaise.
These chicken poppers were a HUGE PORTION! A great sharing option with a fabulous and surprising flavour. They were definitely a “come back for more” starter!
Mains

Chicken Phad Thai (Thai fried noodles)
Rice noodles wok tossed with eggs, nuts, bean sprouts and spring onion.

Egg Fried Rice with Prawns (Khao Phad)
Wok-fried rice with cucumber, tomato and spring onion.
This met all my Thai cravings and expectations. The generously sized prawns were seasoned to perfection, and the side sauces just added to the dish’s flavour profile!
Sean also mentioned the speciality dishes, and we are definitely trying those next time. The Chu Chee is calling our names for sure (it’s crispy chicken sliced, in a red curry paste with lime leaf, basil and coconut milk). The menu covers a wide variety of options, seafood, Thai curries, and stir-fries.
Dessert
We shared the Pasoom
A delicious combination of Thai sweets, Daawk and Glauy Chab, with ice cream and chocolate sauce.
It was such a cool dessert, with two big dollops of ice cream. The Thai sweets were crispy and yummy, and the dried banana slices just finished it off perfectly. It was the best way to end the perfect meal.
And what’s even more exciting is that there are three other restaurants still to try!
