Why Law?

As a child, I loved to watch legal dramas on television, and it was “Judging Amy” that decided it for me. At that stage, I felt my calling was to join the judiciary in the children’s courts; today I specialise mostly in deceased estate and trust litigation. These areas also enable me to give a voice to clients who are oppressed by others in power, which is massively fulfilling.

The Best Part

The law is an ever-evolving creature, and this uncertainty is strangely the most stimulating part! It means you are always reading up and looking for an answer that fits your clients’ case; it is not the end of a matter if there is no clear-cut answer. I receive a daily email with the latest cases that have developed or changed the law, keeping me up to date on developments in my areas of speciality.

Advice for Women in Law

DO IT! The legal fraternity has been male-dominated for so many years, and it seems it took forever for women to be equally represented in it. I recall feeling like I was regarded as a “little girl” who was hanging around in a man’s world, and that does not feel like the case any longer.
