Creativity Meets the Coast

Art in the Country is coming to the coast! It is set for its inaugural launch from 1 to 4 October 2026 at the elegant Collisheen Estate, featuring a distinguished four-day visual art exhibition showcasing leading South African artists, live music by Dezz and the ever-popular René Tshiakanyi, and a delicious curated menu. Event founder and fellow artist, Kathy Jacob, is thrilled to share this five-year-running premier art exhibition with another part of KwaZulu-Natal. “The North Coast was a natural choice. With the generous backing of SPAR KZN, our headline sponsor of Art in the Country, as well as major sponsor Zimbali Lakes, we are excited to bring a touch of the Midlands to the coast,” shared Kathy.

The coastal setting will introduce a new atmosphere not just in terms of climate but also in art. Kathy and her team have been mindful of their art selection process, as visitors might be more attracted to contemporary aesthetics. “Visitors can expect a diverse mix of contemporary South African artwork featuring bold colour palettes, dramatic seascapes, textured landscapes, and innovative approaches across a variety of mediums,” explained Kathy.

The exhibiting artists will be a combination of local talent and artists from Cape Town, Johannesburg, and Zimbabwe. Gift Dlamini, contemporary artist and Design Award winner in 2014 and Sasol Signature finalist in 2025; Bob McKenzie who has exhibited extensively across South Africa and internationally, and runs his own gallery in Port Alfred; Ezekiel Mabote, well known for his gallery Mabote Artworks at King Shaka who specialises in wood cut print making; Simon Addy creates popular Karooscapes and is the joint owner of Addy Hoyle Gallery along with fellow exhibiting artist Lyn Hoyle from Clarens; Jane Digby, a contemporary local artist from Ballito, known for her beautiful portraits and landscapes; Grace Kotze, from Durban, known for her bright quirky fun artworks; and Hayley Lombard from Ballito, known for her large, textured and layered contemporary artworks.

“One of the most rewarding aspects of organising an exhibition is discovering new talent while also supporting and showcasing established artists,” shared Kathy.

Art in the Country Coastal is clear in its focus. It is dedicated exclusively to exhibiting original, high-calibre visual art. The exhibition does not include craft, décor items, soft furnishings or other lifestyle products. “While the setting may differ, our core philosophy remains unchanged: quality over quantity. Every artwork is carefully curated to reflect artistic excellence, originality, and passion,” explained Kathy.

Save the date and savour fine artworks amidst the fresh sea breeze and coastal tranquillity! Gates open from 9:00 to 20:00 daily. Entrance fees are R40 for adults, R30 for pensioners and R20 for children.
