The Future of Orthodontics in Ballito: The Cosmetic and Dental Emporium

The Ballito MagazineAugust 4, 2020

Orthodontics as we know it is changing, and at the forefront of this is The Cosmetic and Dental Emporium in Umhlanga. With a team of highly qualified dentists and a focus on the latest in technology and products, Dr Thinus van Niekerk and The Cosmetic and Dental Emporium team are at the top of their game when it comes to creating beautiful smiles!

While The Cosmetic and Dental Emporium has always offered Damon® braces and other orthodontic solutions, a new member has recently joined the team, bringing with her some exciting skills. Dr Stacey Lock has a special interest in clear aligners, including Invisalign® and Clear Correct®, as well as braces and myofunctional appliances such as Myobrace®. Not only do these products make braces more comfortable to wear, but they also lessen the time required and are hardly visible while working their magic. The aligner technology is very precise, making it possible to accurately move teeth and, using digital scans of the mouth, allows dentists and patients to better track their progress and really see what the end results will look like before engaging in treatment.

Dr Stacey also has a special interest in interceptive orthodontics in children, where there is a focus on intercepting issues, such as mouth-breathing or thumb-sucking, that could lead to teeth and developmental problems, and addressing them at an early stage to reduce or eliminate any drastic orthodontic work needed later on. Despite what many people think, your baby teeth lay the groundwork for your big teeth, so ensuring that these grow properly will help kids in the long run.

“I decided to embark on the journey of getting my teeth straightened as an adult. I dreaded the entire experience until it started. Everyone at the practice is supportive, kind, honest and extremely professional. I would recommend The Cosmetic and Dental Emporium hands down every time” – Sunelle Hack
