Taso’s Bar & Grill Ballito

Living you the best of Ballito with a 180-degree ocean view and a delicious cocktail and food menu with a vibey yet relaxed atmosphere, Taso’s Bar & Grill Ballito truly has a perfect spot along our coast. We enjoyed a fabulous afternoon outside on their deck where you can sit and watch the waves crashing, while keeping an eye out for dolphins or whales.

To start, we had to soak up the sunny day with something from their drinks menu to cool us down. We decided on an Aperol Spritz, frozen margarita, watermelon gin bull, and mojito. Us local ladies felt like we were on holiday! We were already a bit peckish, so we decided to order three delicious starters to share, their springbok carpaccio, which added some meat to our cheesy selection, and the creamy garlic snails with melted cheddar cheese (my favourite), which was served with lightly toasted bread that we used to soak up all the extra cheesy yumminess. The star of the show was definitely their deep-fried camembert cheese with a sesame seed crumb that added a delicious toasted flavour, served on a teriyaki reduction. The sauce brought a touch of sweetness. Just perfect!

As for the mains, when it comes to our hometown, I love that the majority of restaurants offer the best seafood. They suggested we “build our own platter” of seafood goodness. We decided on five queen prawns, fried calamari, chips and a side salad with three delicious dipping sauces (lemon butter, garlic butter and peri-peri). The different sauces brought out all the incredible flavours of the fabulous seafood. It was heavenly!

We also enjoyed a snack platter with grilled halloumi, jalapeño and mozzarella balls and Buffalo wings – perfect for sharing! As Durbanites, I feel we are always drawn to curries, so we just had to try their chicken and prawn Thai-style curry. It was a creamy curry served with rice, a large poppadum and sambals on the side. It was delicious, with a slight hint of spice and some sweetness that went well with the succulent chicken and prawn. Natasha had one of their signature dishes, the 300g Fillet Jack Daniels. This interesting dish came with sliced fillet served on creamy mash, steamed asparagus and a Jack Daniels sauce – just the right kick of whiskey to make the dish super flavourful.

There is always room for dessert. So, we indulged in their sweet and light strawberry crêpes with fresh whipped cream and a drizzle of strawberry syrup and their decadent chocolate brownies with vanilla ice cream and the best Bar One drizzle. The brownies had a lovely gooey, soft centre, making them perfect for a chocolate lover like me.

Thank you, Andre, Annetjie and your wonderful Taso’s team for an absolutely fabulous afternoon.
