We’re showcasing some of our local businesses and the amazing products and services they offer the North Coast.
Curro Castle Mount Richmore
Curro Castle Mount Richmore has a special motto: “Your family is our family”. This is the sentiment felt by Group 1 and 3 teachers, Chantal and Mika. Chantal is a Group 1 teacher. “My children generally start with me at three months old and will graduate out of my class at 12 months. I have the privilege of having the first opportunity to make an impression on these little stars. As opposed to the older children, our role in the children’s lives is more geared to early childhood development and nurturing through play and personal interaction,” she explains. Mika, a Group 3 educator, works with children between the ages of two and three. “I strongly believe that children should not be ‘boxed in’. They should be allowed to express themselves and to be children for as long as possible. Therefore, I teach the curriculum in a fun way, where we learn through song, play and, my specialty, arts and crafts,” she says. Both teachers have two things in common: their love for teaching children and their love for the North Coast. With teachers like these looking after our kids, they are guaranteed a fabulous start to their education.

Secrets Health, Beauty and Day Spa
We have a few secrets that we don’t mind sharing… Secrets Health, Beauty and Day Spa is one of them. Another secret that we would love to share is that the spa has moved premises. After having to abide by regulations and close for the lockdown period, they were approached and offered a beautiful new venue with a relaxing ambiance, trees, birds singing, green lawns, a sparkling swimming pool and a view of the ocean. Secrets is the perfect place to enjoy a manicure, pedicure, facial or massage. “The future of spas leans itself to more outdoor treatments, and we are able to offer most of our treatments outside, either next to the pool, under the shade of the trees, or even next to the little dam with water features,” explains owner Karen Landman. “We’ve been part of the Ballito community for over 10 years and it has been wonderful to see everyone unite during the lockdown,” she says. Between the incredible team at the spa, the fabulous treatments and special atmosphere, Secrets is a must-visit spot on the North Coast.

Originally started by Nadia Van Wyk and named after her daughters, this local business offers North Coast residents decorated biscuits and small, custom-made parties for kids, including décor items, pinatas, sweetie tables and balloons. “Just because COVID-19 has changed how we are doing parties for our children, doesn’t mean it still can’t be special or even more special,” Nadia says. Nadia continues to do what she loves and makes even the smallest of celebrations special. What does she love about being local to the North Coast? “I love being a local as there is a real spirit of community in Ballito. There are lots of friendly people and lots of families to be friends with, and Ballito is the most beautiful place! I honestly can’t imagine living anywhere else!”
