Restaurant Review: Col’Cacchio

Words by Jordyn Trollip

Situated in Salt Rock, Col’Cacchio is an Italian experience you won’t forget!

In December 2020, Col’Cacchio opened an amazing restaurant in the New Salt Rock Shopping Centre for our locals to enjoy. And, oh boy, have they! We stopped by to have a taste of what Col’Cacchio is all about: great Italian food.

As we arrived, we were welcomed by smiling faces and were shown to our table. Col’Cacchio has a gorgeous set-up with modern black and wooden finishes, comfortable leather seats and bright green plants. We were seated in their outdoor area, which was airy, light and perfect with COVID-19 in mind. Speaking of, the restaurant follows all safety protocols, including sanitising, wearing of masks and social-distanced tables, and our temperatures were checked.

With friendly service and vibrant music playing in the background, we were excited to kick-start the food experience!

The Starters

To begin at Col’Cacchio, we decided to go for the piatto di fresca salad. This dish was the perfect starter choice! Out came beautifully plated smoked salmon trout, avo, cucumber ribbons and citrus wedges topped with sesame seeds and a citrus dressing. The salmon and sweet citrus were a perfect pair, complemented by the crunch of the cucumber and sesame seeds and creamy texture of the fresh avo. This meal was light, colourful and a crowd-pleaser at our table!

The Mains

Who can go to a good Italian restaurant and not indulge in a mouth-watering pizza or pasta dish? We went for the pollo pasta, a heavenly blend of seasoned chicken, mushrooms and pomodoro sauce, with linguine (but you can choose from a range of other types of pasta). The dish was topped with sour cream and spring onions – the perfect ‘cherry on top’ of the deliciously seasoned tomato pomodoro sauce, mushrooms and tender chicken pieces. We also devoured the morituri pizza. A thin and crispy base was generously topped with their pasta sauce, cheese, seasoned chicken, crispy bacon, fresh avo, roasted red pepper and feta for a truly cheesy dream!

The Desserts

There’s always room for dessert! Chocolate pancakes were the choice, and a great one at that! Three thin pancakes filled with rich Italian chocolate and hazelnut spread and a scoop of creamy vanilla ice cream were gobbled up quickly and was a magical (and sweet!) end to our meal. We also managed to try their salted caramel and Bar One milkshakes which were the optimal consistency and are great for any sweet tooth or milkshake connoisseur!
