Making Waves: The Beauty of Hard Work and Passion

Jena’s parents would have preferred for her to pursue law or accounting rather than hairstyling, but she continued to follow her passion no matter what. She knew she wanted to be a hairstylist since she was young. During most school holidays, she could be found helping out in her best friend’s mom’s salon. While in high school, she would practice her skills on her mother and sister. Talk about a talented hairstylist in the making!

After matriculating top of her class, Jena went against the grain and started her studies in hairdressing and cosmetology. She learnt about the ins and outs of beauty and hair and nurtured her talent. While studying, Jena began an internship at the renowned Scott & Wells, where she completed her apprenticeship with the group. She quickly climbed up the ladder from junior stylist to senior stylist by age 21. This was an incredible achievement for Jena, but she soon wanted to take on the next challenge…

At age 25, Jena decided to venture out of her comfort zone and applied at the biggest salon group in Johannesburg, Franco International, in Sandton City. At Franco International, Jena found her passion for doing colour and refined her cutting skills. After three years, she became a master stylist! Jena’s client base grew quickly, including some of South Africa’s top celebrities and sports stars. She’s worked on some famous heads of hair! The Franco International Group contributed hugely to Jena’s professional growth, investing heavily in her education, and allowing her to travel internationally in order to train with some of the world’s best stylists. Jena is also one of the country’s few Redken Master Colour Stylists, so you know she’s the best of the best!

After ten years at Franco International Sandton, Jena decided to move back to Durban to be closer to her family. A few months later, COVID hit. Jena spent her lockdown enrolling in international online hair master classes and using cooking and baking to pass the time (banana bread, anyone?). After the lockdown, Jena was approached by a small, local salon in Ballito and quickly started to grow her client base through her outgoing personality, advanced education and passion for hair and hair health. After a year and a half of living in Ballito and gaining amazing clients, Jena decided it was time to fulfil her dream of owning her own salon, and Jena Morgan Hair Studio was born! She instils the same passion and education that she acquired over her career within her team of stylists and apprentices so that all of their clients receive only the best care and styling. In addition to hair, the studio also offers fabulous nails by Nail Creation.

Thanks to the incredible support of the Ballito community, Jena and her team get to spend their days creating beautiful blondes, velvety brunettes, and dazzling beach waves. We can’t wait to watch as her salon grows and many locals get the hair of their dreams. You go, Jena!
