House Ebony

Words by: Jordan Lotter

Zimbali Estate on the North Coast is known for luxurious homes and tranquil living, and House Ebony is no exception. Creating the perfect home requires time, patience and a team of skilled professionals.

The building contractor, Leucor Enterprises, has been developing residential properties in KZN for the pats 18 years. The dynamic duo, co-Directors Shaun Lotter and Shaun Smith, pride themselves on building dream homes, on time and within budget.

“The build went very well,” reflects Shaun Lotter. “The challenge was starting construction in the rainy season, but the highlights were having a good few laughs with the client and seeing them happy as the project evolved.”

Leucor made use of the very best natural materials and workmanship to create a contemporary construction, which is set the tone for the interior.

The brief to interior designer Louise Metcalfe of Storehaus Design was to create a warm, comfortable interior, while still maintaining the clean lines, sophistication and flair of the building. Louise met with each family member to ensure each of their unique needs and tastes were met.

“Creating this home with the owners has not only given us a lot of pleasure as designers, but also gained us new friends…. and that is a true success story,” Louise says.

Louise enlisted Oyster Furniture and Eyekon Design to carry out the design and manufacture of the bespoke furniture which fills each room perfectly. The couch in the lounge is the perfect spot to relax. The unique design extends right up to the TV plasma unit to maximise space.

The kitchen is the heart of the home, and this one is a masterpiece with an open showcase and clever cabinet use to hide the working station and pantry. The clean gloss white cabinets are warmed with the introduction of oak and gold trim. The island boasts PITT burners, an uber-modern cooking concept where separate burners are integrated into the countertop. Use of the downdraft extractor allowed for the installation of classic bubble lights, supplied by Light + Living.

Oggie Flooring laid the durable, natural wood floors in all of the bedrooms, dance studio and ‘man cave’. Classic Trading supplied the majority of the tiles, taps and sanitary ware, such as baths, basins, sinks and taps; Excellent Marble and Granite installed the gorgeous natural Caesarstone countertops.

The main bedroom is the perfect room to wind down in. A sophisticated, serene atmosphere was created by using a range of textures in a similar colour palette, inspired by stunning mural wallpaper by Hertex. The furniture is all custom-made to fill the size of the room and clever charging areas were created. The bathroom carries the same scheme through and we just love the large brass ‘pill’ mirrors from Arkivio.

What’s not to love about a bedroom facing the ocean? The occupant of this room needed a large desk space to study so his custom-built unit was created. The desk and bedside tables have charging stations and all of the built-in-cupboards and shelves have LED lighting. The bathroom reflects the same industrial theme. Use of a textured tile makes the look even more luxurious. Another bedroom looks out over the pool area. The light colour palette and use of natural textures create a calm atmosphere in this room, off-set by a funky LED light, supplied by The Glow Co. The built-in-cupboard doors, by DR Furniture, boast full-length mirrors, which makes the room look double its size.

The home wouldn’t be complete without the stunning outdoor area. Coastline Projects did a fabulous job with the timber balustrades and the decking by the pool, creating the perfect space outside for the family and their guests to enjoy.

The client say that their expectations were more than met at every stage of the building process. Most importantly, they love every moment in their new home. With such a beautiful place to live, one can see why!
