#TBT – Best of the Best 2016

The second annual Best of the Best Awards came, saw and conquered: The Ballito Magazine brought together service excellence, community spirit and a sizzling contest in a night of glamour and appreciation for our spectacular town, at the gorgeous La Piazza. We round up the Best of the Best 2016.

The Best of the Best competition started as a seed in FabMags CEO and The Ballito ed Justin Scott’s extremely active mind; with a view to recognising and rewarding service excellence in local business. “The idea back then was to run a competition that celebrated those who work so hard at trying to deliver exceptional service, even if they weren’t getting it a hundred percent right,” Justin says. “We also knew that it needed to involve the people of the North Coast, because at our core that’s who FabMags is – a business that loves where we live and celebrates everything great about Ballito.”

Last year, the inaugural competition took Ballito by storm, garnering thousands of votes, and this year was no different. This year, a few tweaks changed the format slightly: nominations were restricted to a month and businesses were asked to really think about their service excellence strategy, which they shared with FabMags through an online survey. Voting was also capped at a month to allow organisers time to select the top five, then top three and finally, the winners. “It worked,” Justin says. “It was better than last year and we’ve got even more to work with for next year.” The focus on qualitative assessment saw nominations drop from more than 120 last year to 88 going into the voting round. Votes, however, increased from 12  500 to 14 907 – that’s a jump from 178 to 372 votes daily. The competition pages had more than 55 000 page views and saw visitors reading updates from South Africa, the UK, USA, Mauritius, Kenya, Australia and Kazakhstan.

iLembe District local economic development agency Enterprise iLembe once again partnered with FabMags and acting CEO Cheryl Peters was on hand to help hand out the coveted awards on the night. In Cheryl’s words, customer satisfaction is and always will be critical to the success of any business. “We are delighted to be part of this great initiative, which is sure to be a catalyst for the improvement of business practice and service excellence in the ever-developing business landscape of the region.” She also encouraged business owners not to view the competition as a once off, but a norm. “Embrace service excellence and customer satisfaction and instil them as key values within your staff. Let’s try and maintain high standards at all times. The peak holiday season is fast approaching. Let us become known as the destination of service excellence.”

Justin rounded the 2016 edition off perfectly, by announcing that preparations are already being made for Best of the Best 2017! “Last year, I said that as FabMags, we are committed to promoting the North Coast and businesses here. We hold fast in that commitment. There is no better place to live and work and, if we could, we would give a Best of the Best to Ballito!”
